BALFOUR CASTLE
Mr and Mrs Andrew Lidderdale, Balfour Castle, Isle of Shapinsay, Orkney
The Hidden Scotland wouldn't be complete without one of the most romantic castles in the country. Balfour Castle was built in the 1840s and is a classic example of Victorian architecture. It has retained all its original features including gilded plaster ceilings, hand made wallpaper and marble mantlepieces. It is a wonderful place to stay and get away from it all, perfect for those who wish to escape to a serene haven where everything is sparkling fresh and home grown. Wonderful scenery, seascapes, bird sanctuaries, beaches and ancient archaeological sites. The Lidderdales and their family are charming and welcome parties great and small.
